TURIN, Italy, Feb. 9, 2009 (Press Release) - A new high efficiency cogeneration plant - made up of two gas turbines for a total power of 12 MW in addition to existing steam turbine - is now on stream at Villorba paper mill. The works finished at the end of 2008 and required an investment of 12 million euros.

This investment has allowed to meaningfully increasing power production, thus drastically reducing the amount of power taken from the grid, with consequent reduction both of electromagnetic pollution and emissions in the atmosphere.

The use of high efficiency cogeneration plants for the combined production of electricity and thermal energy represents the best choice for an optimal exploitation of energy resources, thanks to the high efficiency performances which allow minimizing the emissions per energy unit. The gross efficiency of the new plant is 83%.

The new plant completely fulfils the Kyoto protocol recommendations and is coherent with the Group's goals within environmental preservation.

For Villorba, in fact, the total balance of CO2 emissions (as sum of emissions from self production and from imported power) will decrease from current 86,439 t/y to 77,150 t/y with a significant reduction of 9,289 t/y. The NOx emissions per produced energy unit decrease from current 2.15 Kg/MWh to 0.78 Kg/MWh.
